Hi everyone
It's nice to be back to Linux after a long while.
I had a problem in the past with Mandrake and that made me abandon Linux. But now I'm on SUSE and back to life.
Now, let's get down to business
I have SUSE 9.2, use KDE and have a problem with onboard sound AC97 VIA 8235 chipset.
All in all there is sound, but it's chunky and inconsistent in KDE. As for games (like Tux and Neverball) the sound is terrible choppy and impossible to listen to.
I had been fiddling with sound driver and system for quite a while, but was unable to slow the problem. Then I was looking on the Net, but everyone seems to have a different problem.
Now there was NO such a problem in Mandrake, The sound was clear and nice there.
At first, when the system was just installed, it was working impossibly slow, I didn't know what was the problem, but then at some point it stopped and when I was almost about to hit reset button it sprung back to life with a message saying something about CPU overload and the only thing I understood there was that it has to do with the sound module. then it said that module was shut down and, what do you know, the system is as fast as never before. After that I have used YAST to delete the sound driver and turned off the KDE sound system.
Does anyone know what might be the problem here?
I just wanted an advice before I do something dumb
