5.1 sound problem (sound blaster live and suse)

I everybody.

I've installed a sound blaster live 24-bit under suse 9.3. It worked well, no error message.

But I only have stereo.
The connection are OK (I checked with windows).

I upgrade alsa to 1.09b

If I play a DVD with vlc, activating the 5.1 I only hear the music and sound, no speech.

If anybody have a clue.

Sorry for my poor english

Check settings in alsamixer, maybe you have to increase the pointers of some channels there. Try it, it should help.

HI
Did you check, that all necessary channels are on. You can turn off/on them pressing 'm' or '.' button.

Hi,

I can only turn the SPDIF out off but it isn't connected so it mutes all sound.
All the other channel doesn't have acces the the mute fonction.

Hi,

I almost made it work. Here is how I did.

In fact it had always worked, the strange thing is that the mixer don't do anything.

But with mplayer -ao alsa -channels 6 dvd:// I have 5.1
I don't know how with vlc

I also tried with oss. It also worked but quite often the sound went really bad.

So I stay with alsa, for now
Hope it helps a bit.

we must probably wait for new alsa divers :/

in changelog for v. 1.09 we can find :

CA0106 driver
- Add support for Audigy2LS on MSI motherboard
- Increase buffer sizes for the CA0106 driver
- Skip ac97 SPDIF controls
- Fix permissions in some /proc files
- make code static
- Implement surround71 outputs on SB Live 24bit.
- When the alsamixer says "SPDIF Out [Off]", SPDIF output should be off and Analog output should be on.
- Tidy up card recognition.

...but then must work on it :]

I've a very dumb question but I thought I already had alsa 1.09 :
rpm -q alsa gave : alsa-1.0.9-9.1

Does -9.1 means it's a pre-version ? If it is, do you know when the alsa-1.0.9 will be realeased ?

Thanks
