Realtek AC97 and SuSE (sound stuck in a loop)

I recently installed SuSE on my COMPAQ s4020wm. Everything seems to be running fine (except for my sound) and I'm completely LINUX illeterate!! Would anyone be able to help me figure out how to fix my problem?? I'm only LINUX illeterate........not computer illeterate.

I take directions very well, but I'm really unsure where to begin.

In my task bar there is an ICON that looks like a pci card. when i click on that icon it takes me to suseplugger. Under susplegger (i think it's the same as device manager) I drop down to sound device and find my sound card. (FIRST INTERNATIONAL AC 97 audio controller) When i get into configuring this card I can't fix my problem, which is this....the first time the computer tries to make a sound, that initial sound gets stuck in an endless loop. So the sound card is working, just not properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, remember I'm LINUX challenged, so be gentle and tell me exactly what I need to do!!

Dump the AC97, get a cheep ($4.95) sound card off E-Bay, like a CMedia 8738 chipset (5.1 now working). That fixed all my sound trub. Yea, kill ac97 in bios first.
