openSUSE updater - DCOP error.

Greetings to all.

I've just installed 10.2 and all is well, except I'm having problems with the openSUSE updater applet. Upon starting, it will not list any available updates, despite the fact that System Update in YaST lists several possible updates to install. Additionally, if I attempt to add/configure/remove installation sources from the applet, I am prompted for my root password, after which nothing happens. I tried running opensuseupdater from the command line, which returned:

opensuseupdater: ERROR: DCOP error.
opensuseupdater: ERROR: DCOP error.

I chose to install only the openSUSE updater pattern, instead of enterprise with zen/rug etc, thinking that I would be less likely to experience problems as with 10.1, but this one has me stumped. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Noticed that several update sources were disabled by default for some reason in Installation Sources. Upon enabling them, openSUSE updater revealed 4 updates, however I still couldn't install them. I installed Zen-updater, which listed the same 4 updates that I was able to install successfully.

Many thanks,

- Perps

I haven't used SuSe 10.2, I'm still on 10.1 but updating was an absolute nightmare on 10.1 and from what you write it doesn't sound like they have fixed it in 10.2. My solution (and one that was recommended by quite a few other people on various forums) was not to use yast, zen, or any other update tool that ships with SuSe but instead to use the Smart Package Manager. See http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=Smart. It took a bit of work to get it installed and to set up the sources lists but since then it's been a breeze, has given me no problems and there's been no looking back from me!

Zen-updater has been solid for me thus far with 10.2, a marked improvement over 10.1.

Easy,
