Are you typing the root password or the user password?

Well that is a rather useless reply! Do you want help or not?

Cool banana's

Ok, if you open a console can you log in as root? If you can not you will need to start up in a single users mode and change the root password.

I will assume you can at this point. Type in
Code:
nano -w /etc/group
make sure you have the appropriate permissions. If you dont have nano installed, try
Code:
vi /etc/group
Once you have adjusted or checked your settings, hit ctrl + x for nano or :qw! for vi to exit.

Now try to open yast the usual way. As soon as it fails type in
Code:
dmesg
and post the results.

It sounds like you have done an update which has overwritten some settings. Just a matter of finding out what!

Cheers
