Question Laptop graphics error

I am trying to get 3D acceleration on my laptop. After googling for other peoples' success stories I found one where they changed the drivers in SAX2 to fgl8x00, restarted X, and turned 3D acceleration on in SAX2. When I try to change the drivers i get and error when testing:

X Server test failed:
(EE) Problem parsing the config file
(EE) Erorr parsing the config file

Any idea what could be causing the problem?

System Specs:
SuSE 9.2 Pro/Windows XP Pro
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 128MB
AMD Athalon 64 2800+MHz
