i have suse 9.1 pro and downloaded 9.2 from the suse ftp. site and found out that lots of things were missing from it i now wish to go back to 9.1 but not sure what would be the best way to do so i have attempted to run the 9.1 installer boot dvd and it spends a long time saying that it is checking devices much longer than normal so i belive that it hangs not sure why maybe it does not like letting you downgrade. here is hd layout
no i dont need to keep anything but i would like to keep the partitions and just wipe them (linux only ones) is there a way to do it with knoppix as i am in that now and 9.1 installer as i said does not want to run and hangs on detecting devices i belive but i HOPE that that will just be because of it not wanting to risk damaging 9.2 :P
thanks for the help so far
from knoppix run qtparted (something like fdisk) and simply remove the offending partitions.
the linux ones will be the ones not labelled as ntfs or fat32 (or fat16, but nobody uses that these days).
btw, goodluck. It'll suck ass to find out after that 9.1 won't install at all. in which case have a backup distro that can be installed while you resolve the problem. i use yoper frequently to do this (but knoppix will do if you are comfortable with live-cd'ing it).
forgot to mention, SUSE 9.1 will make all the relevent partitions again on install so don't worry about simply deleting them.
brainwave what if i can import the package index from 9.1? i would have access to all the programs i would need there is an option but i need to find the correct .sel file any ideas whitch one i think they are in setup area of dvd (one or 2 folders) if i could do that then i can stay with 9.2 ideas please
using a mixture of 9.1 and 9.2 rpms will result in an unstable, unreliable system. I tried to upgrade 9.1 to 9.2 that way and it messed it up. Nothing worked right.
anyway, 9.1 packages are usually a lower version than 9.2 packages so they won't automagically reinstall.
you could remove all 9.2 sources, add some 9.1 sources and do a system update from yast (i think).
well i did the downgrade and now have all of the super packages but now other problems i did not reallise had been fixed.
i now have an odd glitch with the usb the scanning section of the setup has changed and seems broken part from log below
