Cool failover for two ISP links on Suse9.0

I have just got two links from two separate ISPs terminated via Ethernet to a SUSE 9.0 server. There is also a third Ethernet which serves the LAN

1) will I be able to give each of the two ISP Ethernet cards a separate gateway when i use yast to configure them?
If it is possible, what will be the gateway for the LAN ethernet; can it have two gateways at the same time?

2)In case one of the two ISP links goes down due to any eventuality, how do i setup the box to automatically change over to the other ISP link that is still up (/viceversa)?

regards

Hi Akistam

Yes it's possible.

1- About your two isp, each one have their own default gateway wich will receive internet requests from your server, it'll get configured in automatic way if you can establish connections with dhcp. eth cards will have unique ip as well. The card that serves lan must be setting up with manually assigned ip number, ex. 192.168.0.1 in the same network as the machines it'll serve as you do usually.

2- In the yast configuration think you just need to setup both as default gateway(im not sure cause haven't ever done it)think you must do it and observe. One of them will be on serving and the other standby and connected. Then you keep running network manager wich will switch your connection in case of fail of the other.

3- Maybe of interesting to setup both connections serving part of your lan and changing to one active in case of failure of the other, this can be made thru scripts in if.up and if.down scripts and iptables rules. Think some lack of sense to keep one connection unused just for case of failure.

Hope it helps, but post results here in case of problems.

regards
