Catalogs DO NOT Initialize in SuSE 10.2 Installation

Hi, Friends, Now i am facing problem in installing new SuSE 10.2.

The problem is :

System boots successfully from DVD ( that i Downloaded from one of the mirros on www.opensuse.org )and kernel loads successfully too.

And In first wizard i choose Language (English(US)) JUST AFTER THAT WIZARD Installation starts Analysing System(Detecting : Hard Disk Controller, Floppy, etc.etc.) just after that as Installation start Initializing CATALOGS one pop-up windows opens with the following message...

" Failed to Initialize Catalogs. Try Again."

I click on OK button to give one more try but NO results. the same message appears on the screen again and again until i press CANCEL Button in the place of OK. As a result Installation abort itself and system Reboots.

So please guys come forward and help me to resolve my issue since i spent hours and hours to download SuSE 10.2 ISO( Due to Poor Download Speed in my region).

Please let me know what should i do now ? Is my ISO Corrupt or something.....

Regards......

In your installation menu there should be an option to verify the media. Run that check and make sure your installation DVD is in good condition.

Yes, I have done this already. My Disc fails the test. Media Check Utility produce the result sometime as : The Disc is broken or something like this and ......... Sometime : Disc Check process stops in between somewhere.

I like to mention here that I downloaded the ISO (x86_64) from Switzerland's mirror( One of the nearer to India) and burnt it successfully on blank DVD through ROXIO EASY MEDIA CREATOR v8.0.

regards.

You need to toss that disc and burn it again. Sometimes they just don't take right. I prefer Nero over Roxio, but that's just a personal preference. Roxio should do the job just fine.

Also, one more suggestion is to check the MD5SUM as soon as you have downloaded the ISO file. While burning use the lowest possible write speed. Usually for my installation I use 4x.

gurmeet, I had the same problem when I downloaded the suse 10.2 iso for the dvd, I threw away the dvd and downloaded it to 5 cds instead and the install went fine. Try that and see if it works for you.
Good Luck
