I don't know of any logfiles from KDE. the X logfile might help a bit, but since you say X loads fine, that shouldn't help much either.
How far does KDE load? doe you see the splash-screen? does it actually reach the desktop?
Maybe you can try another windowmanager, just to see if your X is all good(slackware comes whit several other windowmanagers, you can select one whit pkgtool)
maybe as a last resold you could remove KDE and X completely whit pkgtool, and after that reinstall them (?)
KDE shows empty gray screen (not the screen that X shows at starting). After ~1 minute it hangs. I am almost 100% sure the error is not in X. Other window managers are all working fine.

There are some errors with the fonts but I don't know what they mean nor how to solve them. However I think this can't cause the KDE to crash.
Thank you for trying to help. I can't make it work without your help !
I just started another KDE session from konsole (kind a fun to have 2 KDE sessions at the same time )
here is the relevant output:

it seems the fonts are not the problem; i got the same messages.
just a strange idea; what happens if you start ksplash(by typing ksplash in a xterm?)

that's a lot more than I get here, but still doesn't help much
anyway, i did some searching around. It seems that cleaning out all your old DCOP sockets and ICE files can help. (don't ask me what those files are.. )
I noticed something related to this someway back; after upgrading KDE, there where a lot of messages about missing links or something like on the console. Deleting some files in my homedirectory helped out (don't remember what files it where..). So now it seems that these files can cause crashes, too.
So what you could try is create a new account, and than try to start KDE. This new account wont have all these DCOP files and whatever else.
Might work
I am experiencing the exact same problems updating KDE as yourself. I had previously tried upgrading just Qt from 3.3.0 to 3.3.1 and ran into almost the exact same problem (I left KDE at 3.2.0) although I didn't note down the exact details. Looking at kde.org I notice that Qt is still at version 3.2.3, so I'm wandering if thats part of the problem. I could just download the packages from kde.org instead but I'm on a dial-up line and it took me all day yesterday to get the ones I've got.
Anyway I'll keep my eyes open and see if I can recompile Qt myself to 3.3.1.
Creating new account doesn't helped. The same errors and no idea what is wrong. After 20 days of unsuccessful trying I can't get any KDE version to run ! Probably I will never see KDE on my desktop. I am very disappointed.
Reinstall Slackware 9.1, find somewhere with kde 3.2.0 download all of the slackware packages, arts-1.2.0, quanta-3.2.0 and get a copy of qt-3.3.0-tgz, and you'll be there albeit with a few glitches which the newer version is meant to iron out (can't alter the time from the panel, can't set a schema for konsole, kget tends to crash if you stop and delete a download, or try to start one after another has finished etc).
I've managed to compile my own copy of qt-3.3.1 but I'm having a few teething troubles with it ( I think I might have missed out a configuration option ) so I'll probably have to go back and redo that. But if I can get it working then I'll have a look at compiling kde myself and see where that takes me. If it works I'll let you know.
I upgraded the whole system and now Im writing this from Konqueror and KDE 3.2.2. Thank u all for the help. Seems that some of the system packages have been corrupted or out of date but now everything is ok.
