boot sequence freezing at keymap selection

Hey,

I was attempting to install slackware on my desktop. I got to the keymap selection and everything froze up. I was not able to pick a keymap and it forced me to reboot. Any ideas how to get past this?

or use a USB-PS2 converter, keyboards usually come with one.

Yeah, that should work. Slack likes PS2 keyboards.

Good point. A bad md5 checksum would mess up your install.

Thanks a lot. I will try that next time. I got fed up and am running Ubuntu after I figured out my sound problem. Hopefully when I get my new pc in a few months all of these issues will get ironed out.

Check in the bios for legacy support for usb
with some hardware slack freezes (doesn't see the keyboard) with legacy support on, with some hardware it is the reverse. just change the setting and see if it works.

Hi,

Some people just think everything should work out of the box! Blame the software but not engage the gray matter. Think baby, think!

I am experiencing the same problem installing Slackware 12.0, and it's happened on two different machines with two different hardware set-ups. I boot the installer and when it asks to change the keymap (which I need to do), it freezes and forces reboot.

On my server I have a Pentium 3 and I just went ahead and installed Slack using my LA (spanish, latin america) keyboard with the US layout. I pretty much remember where the keys are from using a standard keyboard for years. I thought it was just a glitch with my old hardware and didn't think anything about it.

Now I just tried to install Slack 12.0 on my desktop -- Pentium 4, not brand new, but not an antique either. Same deal. I need to use the qwerty-la1 (something like that) layout because I type everything in Spanish, and the Slack 12.0 installer won't let me. I had to remove the CD (yes, I've checked all md5sums) and reboot into my existing OS (which does not please me at all... I have everything backed up and ready to reformat my WinXP machine to 100% linux... but I can't get past the stinkin keymap on the installer).

I've installed Slack 9.1 and 11.0 on both of these machines (several times, as a matter of fact) and I have never had a hitch with my keymap. This is something new with Slack 12.0.

Does anyone know anything? Is this a known problem? Is there a work-around?

I was so looking forward to getting Slack on my box today... I think I'm going to hit myself with a hammer. :-(
