Boot sequence

My distro is Mdk 10.1 Community.

I'd like to have the sources of all the tasks involved in the boot process.
Which task is the first? Init?

I would say loading the kernel into memory is first, and that's the bootloader's job.

Of course, lilo or grub must load kernel into memory... But after that the boot process goes on and messages are registered into /var/log/messages and displayed on the video (if verbose is activated...).

I need to know the boot sequence or the files that are involved into the process (also if they are not ordered in sequence).

I must explain this strange request... I am seeking for the keyboards maps that are loaded during the boot and in particular the iso 8859-1!
