Xfce System Sounds (or Good-bye KDE).
I've settled on Xfce and have it configured the way I want, except for the system sounds. Yes, I know it hasn't had them in the past, but apparently it is now possible with Xfce 4.6.x, and there are even "sound themes" available.
Does anyone know how to enable system sounds in Xfce?
Many thanks.

From digging around on the 'Net I've found it is definitely possible to have system sounds in Xfce, but it requires libcanberra which has something to do with Gnome. Unfortunately I haven't found a package or SlackBuild for Libcanberra.
You can add a start up sound by adding the line,
play /path/to/sound
to,
Settings > Sessions and Startup > Application Autostart.

Very cool, thanks, man.
I've also settled on XFce 4.6.1 as my main DE. Currently I'm running XFce on 3/5 of my Slackware boxes and Fluxbox on 2/5 of my Slackware boxes.
I love Slackware.
Wow! I guess I'm not the only x-KDE fan around here. I started out as a Gnomie years ago, but converted to KDE because it was highly customizable. Sure. It was a bit more heavy, but still... Sadly, the new KDE4 that shipped with Slack13 (Pat V., what's up with this? ) is a buggy, bloated nightmare, in my opinion. For those who love it, COOL! It's not for me. I went with Xfce 4.6 on my Slack13-64 installation and there'll be no turning back.
Thanks for the sound work-around above. Will give it a try.
Replying to me, Thursapr? If so, yeah... that's what I was looking to do... startup and logout sounds. It's just a luxury, though. Definitely nothing of great importance.
I'm not finding anything via Google. The most I can find are wishlist posts here and there for single click desktop implementation.
I did see a suggestion where you could install Nautilus and use it to control your desktop icons; then the single click would work. Currently, Thunar in Xfce does not completely control desktop icons; xfce4-desktop does that now. With Nautilus, though, control of the desktop icons is under complete Nautilus control.
