I am using KDE 3.3.1 and I recently tried to install the Borealis sound theme. The problem is that KDE won't play any sounds, regardless of it's a wav or ogg file. The sound system seems to be functioning correctly altough I cannot play midi's? Anyone have any idea what's going on? Any help is appreciated, thanks
Can you play any audio at all? Are you using ALSA or OSS, and are they compiled in the kernel? Do you have their respective librbaries installed, whicher one you use? And finally, have you ensured the sound is just muted (that is default)?
I can play all audio(wav, ogg,mp3) fine using xmms or juk, I cannot play midi files, but thats a known problem with the soundblaster live card that I am using. When I go to the control center/sound&multimedia/sound system I can paly/test the sound, but not the midi. When I go to system notifications and try to play .ogg or .wav files I hear nothing. I ve run alsamixer and kamix and the sound isn't muted..

Hmm that's odd I tried the same thing and it worked for me, for .wav at least (didn't try ogg), but my KDE is 3.3.1
Think it may be a KDE problem if as you say you can play .wave and .ogg in xmms, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
