Video not playing (mplayer) on -current latest upgrades

Hello,

*** UPDATE: I "reupgraded" my system by pointing mirrors to -current again, did an upgrade-all and tried running again, and now it works fine on KDE, just not on console. ***

Watching videos (mplayer) used to work fine on -current, but something in the last 2 or 3 latest upgrades to -current made it stop working (error log below).
In the upgrade that first included the latest KDE it was still working fine; as per the error message it seems like is something related to video driver (intel) or even mesa (which were both updated lately, right?)

When loading a video on mplayer under KDE it runs with sound but video is black.
When loading a video on mplayer in the console (no X running) it exits with the errors below:
Code:
vo: couldn't open the X11 display ()!

Any clues?

Thanks, Felipe Weber.

Did you "upgradepkg" or "upgradepkg --install-new"?

The reason I'm asking is that you may have missed "new" packages like glu, which has been split from mesa.

I had the same problem; black screen in mplayer and I have the same chip set as you. Turned out to be a bug in the kernel, from 3.7.0, fixed in about 3.7.4 I think. As I run slackware with my own kernel, I just went back to the 3.6 kernels until it was fixed in 3.7.

If it is the same problem, if you do
Code:
dmesg | grep i915
you should see messages about the gpu crashing after running mplayer.

I assume you are running the stock kernel, so you could try downgrading just the kernel in slackware to see if that fixes it.
