Very strange internet problem

Hello, I am having a wierd problem with my internet connection.

Any browser I run can't use my connection, unless I enter the site's IP. For example, if I enter http://www.linuxquestions.org nothing happens, it times out. But if I enter 64.179.4.149 it takes me right here with no problems!

Also, IRC and IM programs don't work either.

From the command line I can ping this site, but only through it's IP, not it's http:// address.

I can't figure it out! Help would be appreciated.

Edit /etc/resolv.conf so that it reflects you ISP's DNS servers

Example :
Code:
#/etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 203.168.14.9
nameserver 203.168.14.10
Replace 203.168.14.9/10 with your ISP's DNS servers

or you can run BIND on your system and put namserver 127.0.0.1 in your /etc/resolv.conf

Example :
Code:
#/etc/resolve.conf
nameserver 127.0.0.1

as d00msweek mentioned; it's a DNS related issue (which I faced).

If you're connecting from Slackware itself and not via network, then your system updates a file; mine is /etc/ppp/resolv.conf

That file contains the DNS servers of your ISP, you can copy those to /etc/resolv.conf
or as d00msweek suggested, use BIND (I havn't tried that one, yet).

Thank you, my connection now works well. I just needed to put my ISP's DNS server into /etc/resolv.conf like you said. Thanks!
