I use a KDE4 (I would still prefer TDE, if it worked better with some KDE4 programs) desktop set to a gradient looking maybe like the sky above a foggy sea (currently dark, but sometimes light). In KDE3, which I sorely miss, I had slideshows in the centre of the gradient, and also usually viewable in Konsole, though that made reading some shell text difficult. My icons, actually launchers (all of one which disappear when a program is started), are on my panel ('taskbar') that is to the top like old Apple GUIs, though without the extra Apple menu, the panel is more like Windows 95 or 98 (except I avoid most graphical effects from 98 and later). I sort of miss the Windows 3.1 program groups in ways, and wonder if that style would be more usable on a tablet... if I try Slackware ARM, I guess I will use desktop icons again, at least.

Smile First Desktop Shot

Xfce - with first wall paper I like. Just learning to have fun with slackware 13.37 Thank you, linux for newbies, now gone, JustLinux & Linuxquestions.org slackware community.
This is a T500 Leveno Laptop running slackware 13.37. I'm customizing it for a linux newbie neighbor who got fed up with windows crashing and software prices.
Its the first laptop I've installed Slackware on and I'm recompiling my first kernel for it with alot of help from everyone @ linux questions.

I like fluxbox and just recently found a program called wally to create a wallpaper slideshow. It's a nice addition to fluxbox and easy to set up.
