Thinking of this, would it be needed to make my own disks for Slackware 11 once it is released, or would the instructions in the readme file in the directory at the link above do it? I am partly thinking that just downloading the ISO files would be easier, but it could take some time for someone to create them once Slackware 11 is released.

the (official) slackware 11.0 iso image file will be created and released by patrick as soon as 11.0 is ready... you will be able to download it right away using bittorrent... the .torrent files will most likely be posted here: http://www.slackware.com/torrents/

It was five days between the two RC's. Perhaps we'll have 11 by Friday?

Do those of us for whom bittorrent isn't an option have to wait, or will the usual mirrors have images soon after they're released?

who knows... maybe... the important thing is that 11.0 will be released when it's ready (and hopefully not a second before that)...

it's likely that only a handful of mirrors will have the ISOs like really soon... so during the first couple days after release you might have a hell of a time finding one that a) has it and b) isn't overloaded...

You could always "rsync" the -current tree and make your own iso once 11.0 has been announced. The instructions are right there in the isolinux directory...

I was quite lucky with 10.2 and was able to download it from the Slackware mirrors the same day it was released back in September. But, like win32sux stated we'll need to wait to see if the mirrors have 11. I hope they do.

It seems 11 really is close...er. I don't have a laptop (or wireless card), but did notice that since the 2.6 kernel upgrade for the new release the linux-wlan-ng package has only been recreated for the 2.4 kernel. Is this going to be a problem for 2.6 users? Yeah, I know. It's only an "extra" package...

i can't really see the point of downloading the iso when you are fully current

don't believe me cat /etc/slackware-version then

lets save some bandwith this time

yeah, well not all of us kept "-current" and waiting for the latest stable release ( for a full reinstall of the system - in my case ).

Yep, I'll be doing a clean install of 11 with the latest 2.6xx kernel in testing. This will be good.

Quick question: there didn't seem to be any directions in the isolinux directory. Could someone tell me where to find them or if I'm missing something here?
Thanks.

edit: Just found it. I guess my mirror doesn't have all the files the official one does.

a/udev-097-i486-5.tgz: Fixed check in rc.udev for 2.6.15+ kernel.
Thanks to Richard Fuller for the fix.

I am glad to see that it seems to be getting more stable, only one change today - yay!

A how to would be very well appreciated

FWIW:

I was able to get PAM to work for me a week or so ago so that I could put vmware on my pc from Alien Bob's link to this blog here: http://danieldekok.blogspot.com/2006...are-linux.html

Tho admittedly, I am still reading how to secure Pam, which is much more involved; and I'm quite confused but I'm working on it.

Linuxpackages had HAL but they never worked for me on 10.2 stock, I guess mileage may vary. I started to try to make HAL but it got into UDEV and I got scared off as I'm so new still.

Hence my desire for a nice written how-to

Bye for now.
