Don't you think that slackware default full installation lacks a bit in this field?
I don't want to start a flame of any kind, probably is just because GNU/linux lacks really stable tools in this field and for these reasons there is nothing included in slackware. :-)

Yes, KDE applications will work in any desktop environment or window manager as long as you have the required dependencies installed. THey will not blend into the desktop as nicely and will take a while longer to load but they will work.

Well to tell you the truth, I've never had K3B crash, it never turned any cds or dvd's of mine into coasters, the only thing is lacks is DVD-RAM support other then that it's perfect!
not having really looked, so dont fame me too much, is there a autogk equvalent that runs on linux.
I had a look on the autogk site quickly and couldnt find it.
I use Tovid, which is a bash shell script that uses mplayer and mencoder.
It pretty much cleans up any videos in most formats, and makes them DVD compliant
(i.e. Mpeg2 streams.) Seems to work very well... And it came together on these very forums !
Be advised tho, alot of dependencies. But syntax is very simple.

As far as burning goes, there is a program out there called Bashburn. It seems to do
all kinds of stuff (ripping audio cds to mp3s), making and burning ISO's, etc.
But since k3b is the best open source app Ive ever encountered, they have my vote
for now.
