I am interested in graphically ripping and burning audio cds (and burning ISOs) I have tried to install Grip (one of my long-time favorites), but it fails, saying that it cannot find the gnomeConfig file. I have tried arson, but it says that Lame has an improper path to the executable (it is there and the permissions are fine).
I do NOT want to rip and burn on the command line (personal prejudice)!
Any ideas? I am using Slack 9, very, very, happily.
Install grip as root and all should be fine. Most likely its not in your path and not finding the gnomeConfig file. Same thing happened to me so I was lazy and installed as root, it installed fine and also you can run as a regular user just fine afterwards as well.
Originally posted by guiver I tried to install it as root. Hummm... did you have a tgz? or did you compile it from scratch?
Thanks
Installed from a source tarball.. tar.gz file. If its still not working, check your path and compare to where the config file its looking for is located. If not in your current path, add it to your path. edit your /etc/profile or if you made a .bashrc file in your home directory, add it there.
Hi guiver. Didn't you tell me yesterday grip and lame were working for you in Slack 9?
Anyway, you all convinced me to get grip. I'm running into the same problem you report above installing grip, that gnomeConf.sh file is not there. The reason is that this file is created when you install Gnome 1.4. Since Slack 9 installs Gnome 2.2, you don't have the older Gnome libraries that grip needs.
So, you can solve the problem by installing gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-i386-1.tgz, which creates gnomeConf.sh.
In this threadneenee has listed some other files you might want to install to support Gnome 1.4 functionality. Don't know if grip needs them all, but it probably wouldn't hurt to install them and may save you some dependency frustration at compile time.

Yeah, I have to concur with this as I forgot I'm running Slack 8.1 and upgraded so I already had all of those files necessary to install and run grip.
If you go to grip's homepage there is a link for another file that you need to install that he holds. I installed both and Lame and I am now a graphical ripping foo :-)))
The more that I use Slack 9, the more I am convinced that it is the best of the best distros that exists. LOL, I have used (or tried to use) most of what's out there and I truly believe, for the first time ever, that I have finally found a home. Perhaps (dare to say???) a replacement for Win XP (though it is still on my TriOS).
