Strange messages from /sbin/ldconfig while booting and installing packages
Last night, I upgraded my 32-bit, Slackware 13.37 installation to Slackware 14.0, and then -current. I followed the instructions in Patrick's UPGRADE.txt file, installing the packages in the order suggested, but it wasn't long before I noticed that while a package was installing, I would see messages similar to below from /sbin/ldconfig being run. When I finished the upgrade process and rebooted, I still got the same type of messages during the boot process.
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libospgrove.so.0 is truncated
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libosp.so.5 is truncated
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libosp.so.5.0.0 is truncated
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libspgrove.so is truncated
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libospgrove.so is truncated
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libosp.so is truncated
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libospgrove.so.0.0.1 is truncated
I also saw messages regarding "not being checked." I'm wondering if one of the packages didn't install correctly and so the symlinks didn't update, or what? What do you suggest?
Those files all come from the linuxdoc-tools package, so you might want to download that again from a reliable source and then run "upgradepkg --reinstall" to re-install this package. Most likely it makes those errors go away, so if there are other errors still, you will have a better chance of noticing those.
OK, I tried that, but the errors didn't go away. In the process, I also found out that the KDE packages appear to be installed, but KDE (which was my desktop before the upgrade) doesn't launch and it's not in the xwmconfig menu. I'm tempted to just wipe the hard drives, re-partition, and start from scratch, but I'd prefer not to.
To prepare for the upgrade to Slackware 14, I downloaded the ISO (32-bit) and burned it to a DVD. I mounted the DVD and, as root, copied the contents of the slackware directory to /home/rooty/ where I have more room and the packages wouldn't be read-only. Then I followed Patrick's instructions in the UPGRADE.txt file. I have upgraded several times on this same Dell computer and haven't had any problems before. Anyway, let me know if you think I need to start from scratch. Thanks, again.
