I checked for the libata drivers in the kernel configuration ( make menuconfig ) but i can't find the libata drivers. Do i have to download them? How can i add the new drivers to the kernel after that?
You did look at the BIOS an confirm that 'AHCI' is set.
Code:
excerpt from 'libATA FAQ'
Recommended (where BIOS permits): Change BIOS IDE mode from legacy" or "combined"
mode to "AHCI" (recommended), "RAID" or "native".

The Slackware 2.6.24.5 kernel has the support;
Code:
~#cat /boot/config-generic-2.6.24.5 |grep -i sata
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_SATA is not set
CONFIG_SATA_AHCI=y
CONFIG_SATA_SVW=y
CONFIG_SATA_MV=y
CONFIG_SATA_NV=y
CONFIG_SATA_QSTOR=y
CONFIG_SATA_PROMISE=y
CONFIG_SATA_SX4=y
CONFIG_SATA_SIL=y
CONFIG_SATA_SIL24=y
CONFIG_SATA_SIS=y
CONFIG_SATA_ULI=y
CONFIG_SATA_VIA=y
CONFIG_SATA_VITESSE=y
CONFIG_SATA_INIC162X=m
I was just playing with a newer machine and I had the same problem as you're describing Rheibio. After I went into my bios and turned off my BIOS Raid, and booted the Slackware 12.1 dvd with the hugesmp.s kernel it detected my hard drive as /dev/sda. Perhaps there's a setting in your BIOS that needs to be flipped?
My bad, I thought that the 2.6.24.5 and the 2.6.24.5.smp were the same thing. By the way, if I want to modify the kernel I have to install slack again, right ? I deleted the old partitions because I thought I was able to
make the new ones.
Speaking of which, I've got the Acer Bios V1.80 version and it seems I can't configure anything, just passwords, silent boot, etc. Do you know anything about it ?
