Slack 13.0: Hardware monitor modules will not load

I am not able to load any of the modules
in the hwmon directory, for example:

bash-3.1# modprobe coretemp
FATAL: Error inserting coretemp (/lib/modules/2.6.29.6-smp/kernel/drivers/hwmon/coretemp.ko): No such device

but the module is there:

bash-3.1# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.29.6-smp/kernel/drivers/hwmon/coretemp.ko
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9209 2011-10-27 21:09 /lib/modules/2.6.29.6-smp/kernel/drivers/hwmon/coretemp.ko

The same response for all the modules in the hwmon directory.

(However I can get some modules to load if the id is known eg

modprobe w83627ehf force_id=0x8860

will load the Winbond module. But in most cases --as in coretemp--
I don't know this id)

Does anybody know of a fix for this?

What hardware (cpu/motherboard) are you using ? Do you have lm_sensors installed?

Either your CPU/motherboard is quite new and the coretemp in that kernel being quite old does not support it, or your CPU/motherboard is old enough not to support any kind of monitoring, in which case the kernel version wouldn't make much difference.

Thanks Goosen & Caravel.

It is an Intel DH55Hc with Intel Core i5 processor. lm_sensors v.3.3.1 is installed.

It is relatively new (see above), and the kernel version is 2.6.29.6 so it is possible that coretemp does not support the M/B.
The selected processor family in the kernel is the Slackware default: Pentium Pro. I have the same problem with other modules
in the hwmon directory, except that if I am able to specify the id (as with the Winbond module w83627ehf) then I am able to
get the module to load.

EDIT: I tried installing a more up-to-date version of the coretemp module (from http://www.pc-freak.net/files/
dated 27/6/2010) but got same error message
