I have a shared PPPoE connection that I share with some friends in my locality. I have the connection working fine in Windows XP -- I set up a PPPoE connection using the Windows Connection Wizard. I have tried to get the same thing done in my Slackware 9.1 in the same computer. I have used adsl-setup to configure and answered the questions it prompted. But when I issue the command adsl-start, there are some dots (.) and after a while TIMEDOUT is output. I do not have an IP for eth0. I suspect I am missing something. Can anyone please help me on this?

Did you try netconfig and enable DHCP ?

Yes I did. But the same thing occurred.

Are you using an USB modem or the ethernet one ?

When I was with sympatico, I needed to install the adsl setup tool to configure my connection.

After it tries to connect, what shows ifconfig -a ?
