photo server software

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Does anyone know of good photo sharing server software (http) that would work well with Slackware? I have tried things like gallery, but the problem is that I have 1000s of pics that I want to host so adding them one at a time to the gallery database is

1. time consuming/ impossible
and
2. a waste of space as I don't want duplicates (just thumbnails)

Is there something that allows you to import a whole directory of pics already on the server and then display them though http ?

Thanks

There might be a kipi-plugin which does something that you want. Once they are compiled, you can access the plugins from kphotoalbum, digikam and gwenview.

Just to clarify:
I need something that runs server side. ie: creates webpages for http clients with thumbnails, etc. Something that can use the existing directory structure of a partition on the server already containing many photos.

Sounds like you need to be creating your own PHP scripts for this task. Try this link http://lamphowto.com

That link simply helps with setting a web server which I already have. Thanks anyways though.

I think you're right though: I may need to write my own PHP scripts as there doesn't seem to be much out there that allows importing of a whole directory without re-coping all the photos.

I was hoping to be lazy and not have to learn PHP. :P

Look at this script: http://www.molenda.com/makethumbs/ - I use it to quickly create HTML pages with thumbmails for collections of photos I took. A small example of such a page: http://alien.slackbook.org/slackshow2008/ibm_ltc_br/

You can create a file "descriptions.txt" which you use to add captions to the thumbnails.

Actually just looked at this again. It seems that konqueror has this capability built in. Just open the directory containing your photos with konqueror, then click on >tools>create image gallery. This then creates thumbnails of the images and a web page that links to them all.

Alternatively, try this link http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Lin...toGallery.html

It lists various solutions and hopefully will have something that suits.
