perl CPAN

Hi all,
does anyone know if I should run:

perl -MCPAN -e shell

as root? I accidentally ran it as root on its first run and now it tells me that /root/.cpan has been allocated as the config file/directory (even if I delete it). I am trying to use this software as I have just installed f-prot and when I try to do an update I get the following error:

tuttle@darkstar:/usr/local/f-prot/tools$ ./check-updates.pl
Error: Unable to include perl module: 'HTTP::Request'.
Please install this module and try re-running this script.
(Hint: man CPAN)

Fatal error. Exiting...

Any light on this would be much appreciated.

edit: I tried the update as root with the same error

Well I had the same problem with f-prot but I chose some painless solution. As my experience with perl is null, i found an older version of f-prot and I took the check-updates.sh script and copied it into my new f-prot directory.
IT WORKS FINE!!!
