By editing your /etc/fstab to include "users" as an option:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 users,defaults 0 0

Cool

/dev/hdc5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 defaults 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto defaults 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0

i set it up like that, still didn't work, i get the following:

bash-2.05b$ mount /dev/fd0
mount: must be superuser to use mount

Look different.. You see the "users" option I've added in the example, that's the one you are missing

Cool

yeah... AFAIK slackware doesn't use automount by default. You need to manually mount it, or set up autofs.

Ok, let's give something else a try then, we'll remove defaults, and specify something else:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,users,ro 0 0

And be sure to change the permissions back to 755 on the files you changed them on..

Cool

Try typing "user" instead of "users" in the fstab file.
And do a #chmod go+rx /dev/cdrom.
I did that and it worked....
