"make menuconfig" gives out these errors ...

Hi,

When I tried recompiling my kernel, last time, "make menuconfig" command gave me following errors.

Quote:

from scripts/basic/fixdep.c:115:
/usr/include/bits/local_lim.h:36:26: error: linux/limits.h: No such file or directory

/usr/include/bits/socket.h:320:24: error: asm/socket.h: No such file or directory
scripts/basic/fixdep.c: In function 'use-config':
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:206: error: 'PATH_MAX' undeclared )first use in this function)
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:206: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:206: error: for each function it appears in.)
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:206: warning: unused variable 's'

make[1]: *** [scripts/basic/fixdep] Error 1
make: *** [scripts_basic] Error 2
How can I fix this?

Thanks

try running
Code:
make mrproper
first.

NOTE: this will delete your .config, so back it up somewhere else first and copy it back after you run the above command.

I always run "make mrproper" when recompling/compiling, but this doesn't help.
I just do not understand what may have caused these errors. I worked fine before and then didn't last time.

Could a removal of a package may have caused this?

Indeed this is caused by missing headers.

Thanks! Can you explain how to fix this/get the headers back please? Or where I can find a paper/guide to fixing this problem?

I think the slackware DVD has a kernel-headers package in /extra or /testing or /slackware/k/

if you don't have a slackware DVD, check the mirror on slackware.com
