I just read a similar thread, and someone said that you had to install the kernel-headers package. apt-get installed the kernel-header package for kernel-2.6.10, but I still get the same error. Is there something else I have to do?

menuconfig requires ncurses and its libraries to be installed. If you have KDE (or the Qt libraries) installed try make xconfig. This is what I use. Also, read the README and README.Debian in the top level of the source directory, this will tell you what dependencies the kernel source requires to compile such as gcc version, etc.
