Local Network Setup

I want to set up my local network.

There are up to 150 computers using the gateway 129.180.163.254 and I want to be able to connect to them.

I have read I need to setup samba sghares and such but how do I go about doing this???

There is no password requirement for me to connect to these computers. Most of these computers are running Windows of some flavour.

I also want these computers to be able to see my Linux computer through thier windows network neighbourhood (is this possible).

And lastly, how do i setup folders to be shared so that they are read-only???

Thanks a lot.

Here's the easiest solution:

1. get samba installed (both client and server)
2. get webmin installed (http://www.webmin.com/)

Log into webmin and go to servers and then to the samba area. Although a little confusing, it's a lot easier then doing it by hand, plus you can go into the config files and tweak them as you need to.

Also do a search on samba and you should get a ton of info.

Not much help, but it gives you a starting point

well, you can try `man samba` to get you started. My samba config stuff is located at /etc/samba/smb.conf and it appears to be commented well. Also `man smb.conf` has a ton of info, too. I would still use webmin though
