lilo: slackware and mandrake

Hi
this is probably/hopefully a very basic question, but my technical ignorance means I have to ask it ...
My hard drive is set up as follows:
/dev/hda1 - Mandrake 9.1 root (ext3)
/dev/hda5 - Mandrake 9.1 home (ext3)
/dev/hda6 - swap (swap)
/dev/hda7 - Slackware 9.0 (reiserfs)
I put LILO on the MBR (/dev/hda) when installing Mandrake. I then (weeks later) installed Slackware, skipping the LILO install.
I then tried to add Slackware to the MBR LILO, "image=/boot/vmlinuz", "root=/dev/hda7" ... which results in "kernel panic" when I select Slackware. Next, in Slackware, I set up LILO on the root (Slack, /dev/hda7) partition with slackware as the only option. I still get "kernel panic" ... Slackware boots okay with a bootdisk, but tries to install modules for devices I don't even have so it takes a while.
What's the best way to set up a dual boot for two Linuxes?
TIA
Steve

I am not sure , but try this -
Now that you've install a lilo in /dev/hda7, put these lines into the lilo.conf of your *Mandrake* :

other=/dev/hda7
label=Slackware #or something else you prefer

Good luck.

I am newbie but I will ask something: both Mandrake and Slackware will use /dev/hda6 ? Or one of them doesn't use a swap partition?

[several googles later, Steve replied ...]
Thanks windrose, I'll try that ... and then the suggestion from CLUE-Tech that one copies the slackware kernel to the Mandrake root partition, and then in lilo.conf set root=/dev/hda7. As I type this it looks confusing, but I'll post my lilo.conf if it works !
Ivan - I'm a newbie also, I assume swap's only used as temporary extra memory for the OS that#s running at the time - so you only need one swap partition. If anyone out there knows better, let me know !
