I've installed the test9 version of the new kernel to try it out.
No problems with configuring (nice cleanup of menuconfig btw) or compiling.
But when i boot with my fresh kernel it refuses to acknowledge my mouse (IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0). It got to the point where I compiled ALL usb drivers as Modules and when that failed i compiled ALL usb drivers into the kernel. Still didn't work.
When I run dmesg I see no errors concerning USB, but the fishy thing is:
The kernel loads 2 usb drivers (ohci and uhci) and then no more, with the old kernel there were like forty lines (maybe less =) with usb-hubs found and my mouse found. But now, the mouse is dead.
Imagine the fun trying to get to LQ and typing this message. And yes I know I am stupid, I could just have rebooted with the old kernel =)
Other than that the new kernel is really lightning-fast. When the stable comes out it will be a milestone...
I installed test11, and cannot get any mouse to work, either usb or my old one. I was so excited to finally get the compile to work, booted... then started X only to find a dead mouse. I rebooted with my old mouse plugged in and still, nothing. I googled about it, and didn't find anything. The mouse works in 2.4.22.
I will keep searching, if I find anything I will post it. Maybe someone can help us.
I had to recompile my kernel, I had left out OHCI HCD support. Once I enabled that, rebooted, everything was fine... except for my networking, which is now fixed.
