Just two questions about Slackware

I was wondering on how to use Gnome instead of the official KDE build. I know I can go to the third party slackbuilds.org. But not sure where to look on how to install it. If someone can direct me in the right direction that would be swell.

I am looking for a install step by step guide for Gnome. I was also curious if the Gnome version would provide me the same stability and speed as the official Slackware with KDE.

My second question is regarding the Slackbook project. I know I can get the pdf file and print it out but I was hoping for a book that can get shipped to me and when I purchase it the proceeds go to the Slackware organization.

If anyone has any information regarding these issues. That would be great. Thank you.

If you go to gnomeslackbuild.org, you will find a nicely done installation of Gnome for Slackware. I have used it, runs quite well and is straightforward to install. They have very clear instructions on the site re: installation. In my experience this version of Gnome is much quicker than KDE, at least to boot. Keep in mind that all observations like this are personal. Good luck. Yes you can buy the SlackBook, but the last time I checked the new version is not out yet. The available version is a few years old now - I would probably wait for the new one to spend money on (due any day now ).

Gnome Slacky http://www.slacky.eu/index.php?id=24...tent&task=view
Gnome Slack Build http://gnomeslackbuild.org/ (Not affiliated with SlackBuilds.org)
Gware http://www.gware.org/
Dropline http://www.droplinegnome.org/
Each Gnome option has instructions on their website.

Some people report great results with one or all of the Gnome options, some have reported one or all where lacking in one way or another. My opinion - Gware is a slim basic Gnome option that works quite well. I have not used Dropline for YEARS, GSB gave me more than I wanted, Gnome-Slacky looked nice and may fit those looking for a more complete Gnome - has lots of extras like GSB. Though I currently do not use a Gnome option, and haven't since KDE 4 hit the Slackware ftp

Wow thank you all for the quick help. I will install the Gnome Slackbuild. I also will purchase the Slackbook but I will have to wait some more for Slackbook 3.0. Not sure when that will come out though. I am not going to cover that in this forum post. There's another topic covering that issue.

This forum post can close now. Thanks again.
