Few questions about Slackware 10.0

Hi,

1) I downloaded the Firefox 2 and just copied it to /use/share/firefox and extracted. Firefox works but it seems to be a bit slow. I had 10.2 with firefox preinstalled and it worked quite a bit faster.

2)I seem to have php installed on my computer. When I try to run a php script nothing happens as if there was no php code in the document. Any ideas how to turn php on?

3)I tried starting mysql as well but this is what I get:
Code:
root@localhost:~# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
061119 21:01:47 mysqld ended
This is from the logfile:
Code:
061119 21:01:44 mysqld started
061119 21:01:45 InnoDB: Started
061119 21:01:45 Fatal error: Can't open privilege tables: Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist
061119 21:01:45 Aborting

061119 21:01:45 InnoDB: Starting shutdown...
061119 21:01:47 InnoDB: Shutdown completed
061119 21:01:47 /usr/libexec/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

061119 21:01:47 mysqld ended
TIA

Read the /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld file comments on how to start/setup mysqld.
For php, check shilo's website. It gives you conf files, etc.

Thank you very much for the advice I managed to solve both php and mysql problems.

But I', having more problems. The computer wont power off with:
$: /sbin/shutdown -h now
or
$: /sbin/poweroff

I read elsewhere about this problem, it seems that I have to have a acpi module compiled into my kernel.

I tried modprobe apm and it says nothing. What to do?

In the file /etc/rc.d/rc.modules remove the comment character for the line
Code:
#/sbin/modprobe apm
so that it looks like
Code:
/sbin/modprobe apm
and then reboot. Or run
Code:
modprobe apm
apmd
if you don't want to reboot
