I think I'll start downloading it today via torrent...And install in VirtualBox, see how it's doing...
It is doing great I haven't even noticed the "Ugly Sisters" nepomuk, akonadi and strigi they are running, behaving and not hammering my resources. I did a fresh install of Slackware 13.1 and added the multi-lib extensions.

I've got xfce-4.6.2 sources (along with all of my other package sources) up in the usual place, but I haven't had a chance to get the packages uploaded and pushed out. I can't get online at work except from this Windows machine, and my home net connection isn't beefy enough to upload ~2G of packages, and I haven't had a chance to get somewhere else that does...

I think this is the most important gain in KDE 4.4 (apart from bug fixes and generally getting more complete). I see no reason to disable akonadi/nepomuk/strigi now. The database size is now configurable and very small by default.

The only thing that could be scaring people would be the first logon to KDE 4.4: you get this akonadi status window with all the warnings and errors - basically these are indicating that no previous run of akonadi was detected... the errors are harmless, useless even.
On second logon, those errors are gone and the akonadi resource migration manager starts doing its work.

Many thanks to the ground crew!

You'll have to be more specific than "ebook reader." However, you'll probably find a package-building script on SlackBuilds.org (especially if you mean "Adobe Reader").
ok, thank you! FBreader works. latest xephem compile and works too ( i have problems with it compilation under mandriva 2010... )

I'm going to use again Slackware and remove Arch Linux
It's a great doubt for me: Slackware or Arch?

You can always run both and after some time you'll find your answer.

I converted my -current tree to a 13.1 tree and made an md5-matching DVD iso with sligdo last night. Unfortunately I couldn't get my torrent client to use it. I had started the 64-bit DVD torrent, and tried to slip the complete file in place of the partial one. It appeared to delete all parts of the complete file that hadn't downloaded yet. In any case, I just let it download again. By this morning both the 32-bit and 64-bit DVDs were finished and quietly seeding; twin beacons of hope shining a light in the darkness for the vast Slackware-less masses.

wubai: How to upgrade system with slackpkg...

1. nano /etc/slackpkg/mirrors (uncomment whichever server you want, make sure its the proper section for what you want to upgrade to: 13.1)

2. slackpkg update gpg

3. slackpkg update

4. slackpkg install-new

5. slackpkg upgrade-all

6. slackpkg clean-system (be careful not to remove extra apps or things you've added seperately)

Hope this helps you out I'm a slack newb, and have used this for the last few months of using -current. Works great

edit: be sure to read that Changes/Hints.txt linked up above, before upgrading. If you dont, you may be in a world of hurt. Good luck
