Is gaim 1.3.1 crashing my system?

Hi everyone

Yesterday my computer hard locked twice I couldnīt even do ctrl alt backspace. And it seemed to be as soon as I loaded Firefox and then gaim.

Any ideas? Also which one of the /var/log/ files do you think would be most usefull in finding out the last thing that happened before a crash/what actually crashed it??

it's quite unlikely that firefox and/or gaim would lock-up your entire system...

have you checked your memory to make sure it's fine??

http://www.memtest.org/

also make sure you don't have any cpu temperature issues...

have you made any software changes to the system recently??

I have been using windows to play counterstrike for hours on end and it hasnīt crashed. I did update gaim not that long ago from a package on linux packages.

It has been a while since I updated my kernel and video drivers so I am going to do that and see if it helps.

Also that memtest86 is wicked I will have to use that tooo.

Thanks!

I found it was crashing without hardly anything loaded even outside of x! I restarted with the standard 2.4 kernel and I updated to the latest kernel as I saw it had gone up another version and also downloaded the latest nvidia drivers for my graphics card and it seems to be sweet now.

Maby somthing got corrupt or somthing? I dunno.

Thanks for your guys ideas!
