Intermitent network failuers, linksys wmp54g v4.1

Hi All! Well once again here i am!,

This time it's my netwrok connection that's the cause of all my sorrows I have a linysks WMP54G V4.1 Whic has up until 4 days ago been going perfectly. But as of 4 days ago it's begun to drop the connection which can only be brought back up again by either rebooting or from the Konsole entering the following

Quote:
ifconfig ra0 down
rmmod rt61
iv'e reviewed my install logs and there's nothing iv'e added lately that would appear to be causing a confilct. As i'm typing this the connection dropped after three minutes exactly, but after reconnecting it's been up now for just iver 8 minutes.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue? or is it a case of yet a nother dead card.... of whch there has already been 3 2 cheap generics and 1 netgear.

Any insights or known bugs?

Thanks in advance to anybody who can help or offer any kind of advice

Thanks

Alibar

p.s i havent moved the A.P or the pc and there is still a clear line of sight.

I've had similar problems with the same model and version of router. I fix it by power cycling the Linksys, then on the computer I run /etc/init.d/network restart.

I don't know if this problem is specific to Linux. I rarely run my Windows machines facing the Internet except to install patches.

power cycling!

okay just one problem with what you said Stress_Junkie, i'm referring to a wirelaess card not a router. I imagine your suggestions would no doubt work were i in the same prediciment as yourself. I'm going to buy a new card tommorrow to see if it is indeeed the card, however i have a sneaking suspision it may be software based as opposed to hardware.

The only red herring is the fact that the connection is not dropping at equal intervals, instead it's random. The weather here has been heavy and humid, almost as if you were expecting thunder, maybe this is playing a role in my problem?

Are you sure it's a problem with the card itself ? Are you connecting to some type of router with it ? If so, most routers should be unplugged and let sit for 5-10 min. every month or so. Otherwise, the connection becomes slow and lossy. I've never found a good explanation for why this is ....
