Intermitent network connectivity.

I just loaded RH 8.0 and it detected my network card without any problems..Or so I thought. About every 15 minutes or so I lose network connectivity. During one of those down periods I pinged loopback (127.0.0.1) and got no response. I found out that if I deactivate then activate my nic card from within redhat connectivity gets re-established. I'm guessing the wrong nic card was automatically installed. BTW, my nic card is an Intell 100VM. RH installed drivers for the Intell 100b. I've changed it to the Intel 100 but I'm having the same problem. So I have 3 questions:

1. Does the problem point to an incorrect nic card?

2. Where can I find nic card drivers for Linux?

3. How do I install a nic card driver in Linux?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like either a bum NIC or something is up with maybe your connection itself. Are you using DHCP to get online or static IP connection ?

Is this thru a router or maybe a direct connection to your ISP, etc ?

loopback is an entirely different interface ( lo ) that is not related to your first network interface ( eth0). Wonder what /sbin/ifconfig would say during those downtimes.

About eth0, do you know what driver module you're using? I use eepro100 and it works quite well with all the intel LAN cards I've seen including onboard LAN devices.

Trickykid, I'm using a static IP through my work LAN. I know my card isn't bad because when boot to XP (dual boot) it works flawlessly. I really want to get rid of XP!

nxny, I'll do an /sbin/ifconfig next time and post the output. Where canI find new nic card drivers for linux?
