Init hangs on after upgrade

Hello,

Yesterday, I upgraded my Slackware -Current x86_64 with all changes since December 22nd 2022.
I use Slackpkg and Slackpkg+ since few years now to do that.
I don't think that matters, but yesterday, it was still not possible to join slakfinder.org.

Everything went nice as usual. There were no Kernel, so no need to rebuild initrd.gz.

And at some point, I reboot. My default runlevel is 4.
Then the init process hangs on : udevadm hwdb --update

I came here to see if there was some topics about that behavior but I didn't find one.

So, I tried to boot on runlevel 3. Hangs on too.

Then on runlevel 1. I could logon as root, try to find some errors into logs but I did not figure out anything. I guess I missed something.
Just to see an error, I tried to run "udevadm hwdb --update" and everything frooze. Probably a bad idea.

Now on runlevel 1, logon prompt is there but after enter username it is freezing, impossible to enter the user's password. Oups... Bad idea checked.

Just in case, from a live system (Tails) and to get a more recent copy, I backed up the whole /home directory on a external disk.

I can boot with init=/bin/bash and get a prompt.
Once there, after few minutes, it freeze with a strange message. For now, I don't have a copy of it.

It seems like a hardware error. But everyhting was up running before the upgrade, Tails runs perfectly fine and disks seems all good.
So, I guess there is a hardware configuration change within the upgrade :
- should not be Xorg as runlevel 3 ends the same way.
- Speaking of Xorg, made me think there are some graphics libraries upgraded.
- there is sysvinit-scripts package, but that would be weird to me.
- beside the kernel-firmware package nothing seems really related to hardware for me. I do not use testing Kernel.
- I don't know if removing /etc/udev/hwdb file would have change anything.
- I don't think of anything else...

Anyone has an idea ? And what I could do or try ?
Before I try to reinstall everything...

Thank you,

If not mistaken, there are all packages take into account by the upgrade (from Changelogs) :

Hey folks, Merry Christmas and Hanukkah Sameach! Figured it was about time to
get some kind of kernel activity going again, but it most definitely belongs
in /testing for now. I've been trying to shape this up for weeks, but there
are still issues, and maybe someone out there can help. The biggest problem
is that the 32-bit kernels crash on boot. Initially there's some sort of
Intel ME failure (this is on a Thinkpad X1E). If those modules are
blacklisted, then the kernel will go on to crash loading the snd_hda_intel
module. The other issue is that I've got a 4K panel in this machine, and
have always appended the kernel option video=1920x1080@60 to put the console
in HD instead, and then loaded a Terminus console font to make the text even
larger. With these kernels, that option is completely ignored. I've tried some
other syntax I've seen online to no avail. And when the Terminus font is
loaded the text gets *even smaller* for some reason.
So be careful of these kernels (especially the 32-bit ones), but I welcome
any hints about what's going on here or if there are config changes that
might get this working properly. Is anyone out there running a 6.x kernel on
bare metal 32-bit x86?
Cheers!

a/sysvinit-scripts-15.1-noarch-3.txz: Rebuilt.
rc.6: support an optional rc.firewall_shutdown script. Most firewall scripts
don't need a formal shutdown, but in some cases it can be useful. If your
rc.firewall script supports a stop parameter, the shutdown script should just
contain "/etc/rc.d/rc.firewall stop", or rc.firewall_shutdown could also be
a symlink to the rc.firewall script in that case. But how the script works
is (like the rc.firewall script support) completely up to the admin.
Thanks to metaed for the suggestion.
Please note that contrary to the request, I placed this *after* the network
is shut down to avoid removing firewall protection while the interfaces are
still active. Whether it'll work in this place for metaed's (or anyone
else's) needs, I'm not sure. It's a start. Feel free to weigh in on the LQ
thread if you have any ideas for improvement, but the goal here is to keep
this support as simple and flexible as possible.

Did you see any .new files in /etc/rc.d ?
Reading rc.udev, I see /etc/udev/hwdb.bin is updated at each boot, so no worry about deleting it...
