On a fresh install of Slackware 9.0, I am having problems getting apache to work wtih ssl. apachectl startssl just returns a error. I've poked around in the httpd.conf file, but I'm not even sure what I should be looking for (though everything appears to have been setup properly by default).

I don't want to change anything that may create problems and can't find a definitive answer anywhere. What needs to be done off a default full install to get mod_ssl working?

Thanks
Greg

you mind sharing the error you get?
anyway, I think you'r missing server certificates to use with apaches mod_ssl. have a look at /etc/apache/mod_ssl.conf .. it probably points to some private key and certificate file that are missing or not legit.
Go to http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_faq.html#cert-dummy to make a test key. And you see the next question concerns real certificates.
Good luck
