I want install my scanner (hp scanject 2200c), but the xsane don't detect it. I use slackware 10, and I think that is strange because the scanner it's detected in other distros. I saw in plustek site that's this scanner works fine in linux. I instal the pakages of fedora core 2 (xsane, sane-frontends, sane-backends) with rpm2tgz (because in fedora core 2 this scanner works) but nothing.
Who can help me?... I like slackware, but I need that scanner works...
You could try to obtain the source code for the scanner driver and compile it under slackware, but from my own experience the PLUSTEK scanners do give a few problems under Linux.
Try editing /etc/sane.d/dll.conf and uncomment plustek_pp the parallel port version comes disabled by default, that should do the trick (provided you loaded parport modules on /etc/rc.d/rc.modules)
Btw, try running sane-find-scanner -p
after editing that.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
# Also you need support for SCSI Generic (sg) in your operating system.
# If using Linux, try "modprobe sg".

# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
# Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports can't be
# detected by this program.
It looks like you have the modules you need and sane has detected your scanner, although it looks like what I'm assuming is your modem (alcatel) is also being picked up by sane. Is the modem usb? Maybe you should try running sane-find-scanner with your modem unplugged.
Check in /etc/sane.d that only the plustek back-end is executable. All the other backends should be read only.
Then do "scanimage -L" as root and see if your scanner is identified correctly. If it is, run "xsane" as normal user. If that doesn't work, try it as root. If it works as root but not as normal user, you have a permissions problem to which there are a few different solutions.
I'm not sure if using the Fedora packages is a good idea - they might be tweaked to run on FC. It would be safer to use the source, or make a tgz package with checkinstall. But try the other stuff first, maybe the FC packages are OK.
Sorry it was sane-find-scanner but you already used it.
Try xsane plustek:libusb:002:002 now
Also, read xsane's man pages to see if you spot something there.
I've got the same output:
opens the xsane graphical window and the fallow menssage:
Error to open the device 'plustek:libusb:002:002" not suport operation
Don't worry I think this is a waste of time. Maybe I need of distro...
sane-find-scanner has found your scanner.
scanimage -L has correctly identified your scanner.
Running "xsane" should work on your setup, unless you're using a 2.6 kernel
Are all the backends in /etc/sane.d read-only except for plustek (executable)?
Check in /var/log/dmesg for any lines to do with usb (ohci, uhci, ehci, usbcore) to make sure the kernel is loading the drivers
