help: vi starts elvis

Hi,

bash-2.05b$ vi --help
Usage: elvis [flags] [files]...

Doesn't this mean that by typing elvis instead of vi is started?

How can I undo it?

elvis is a vi clone. Should have the same functionality, plus some. On my RH9 system, running "vi" fires up vim.

The bottom line is anything that you can do with good old vi, you should be able to do with elvis. If you don't like it, change the alias. For instance, on a RH9 machine, where vi runs vim, go to the /etc/profile.d/ directory and remove the vim.sh file, or edit it to point to what you want it to run.

If your system isn't using an alias (I checked by using "which vi") then track down the vi command, it's probably a symlink to elvis.

Try /usr/bin/vim.
Then /usr/bin/vimtutor.
(Or try /usr/bin/gvim in X)

This happens when you install elvis + vim for the next time you install slack on expert mode de-select elvis and make sure vim is selected when you are installing

To install "vim" instead of elvis, simply delete the "vi" link to point to vim instead of elvis.

Then, copy the default/example .vimrc files that are in vim /shared directories to your home directory. And you are all set!
