Hello,
I was just wondering why it's elvis is used as standard vi clone in slackware. http://elvis.the-little-red-haired-girl.org/
I don't think it's just a case, and I must admit that vim on red hat has a better default syntax highlighting IMHO. :-P
As win32sux and keefaz, elvis is lightweight both in size and memory footprint.
It's in the a/ directory so if you want to choose a minimal install by selecting directory packages you'll get at least a "vi kind" editor.
Vim is in the ap/ directory which is not needed for a minimal installation and it's default behaviour is somewhat rude until you use the suplied the /usr/share/vim/vim63/vimrc_example.vim config file.
Personally I prefer to use mcedit when I need to edit config files.
