I just want a good, compatible, graphics tablet for slackware. Do they work well with linux or will I need to do a lot of tweaking to get things to work? Is there anything I should look for before buying?
Indeed when I first started with Linux in the days of Slackware 9.1 I used the tablet exclusively for my mouse and one of the reasons I stuck with Slackware was that I found it the best distribution for getting the tablet working. There is a linuxwacom site which has instructions and software.
That is an interesting post, in particular the bit about the udev rule.
One problem That I have had is that the tablet only works properly if it is plugged in when I boot, even if I restart kde. Would the udev rule enable me to have it working properly if I plug it in to a booted system.
Distribution: Slackware64 14.2 and current, SlackwareARM current

Sorry, I don't know. I still own no tablet myself.
I guess the question might be if X loads the module dynamically or if you have to restart the X server. Never tried such thing
