Eterm libttf.so.2 problem

I'm trying to get Eterm to work, but it keeps saying that it can't find shared objectfile libttf.so.2. I have tried installing freetype as a binary from www.linuxpackages.net and by compiling it from source. Any suggestions?? I am running slack 9 updated to current with swaret.

libttf.so.2: cannot open shared object file

dude, that's messed up, i just updated freetype and now eterm won't work! and to top it off i actually had the correct freetype package installed and uninstalled it!

ahhhhh-ha, from the freetype 2.1.3 readme :

FreeType 2's library is called `libfreetype', FreeType 1's library is called `libttf'. They are *not* compatible!

that explains it then! even worse - i deleted the Eterm packages after i installed them! so i have to download them again!
