cgoban3 -- can't get it to work on Slack

Good evening --

Any Go players out there? And if so, have you tried installing cgoban3

http://www.gokgs.com/download.jsp

on Slackware 13.37? I spent some time last night trying to get it working. The download is a .jnlp program, which one typically starts/installs with the 'javaws' program; however, this does not work on Slackware: I get a popup saying "Unable to launch the application," and the first line of the exception thrown is

Code:
JreExecException[Could not launch the Java Runtime Environment version /usr/lib/java]
I got the same error when I tried to run javaws using the full URL, as the gokgs.com page suggests.

I then spent some frustrating time trying to change JRE settings with the Java Control Panel, only to find that none of my changes would 'take': apparently this is a known bug (! a rather large one).

Then I Googled a bit and found this thread:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...p-file-923587/

On the strength of this I installed the JDK, but still no happiness.

I'd be interested to hear whether anyone has succesfully installed cgoban3 on Slackware.

Thx,

Glenn

Well, as often happens, I found a solution to this not long after I posted ... I guess I just need to poke around more before I bail and post. :/

Solution 1: In Java Control Panel, under Temporary Internet Files, CGoban3 is visible. It is possible to alt-click on this and get a menu of choices.

Solution 2: I Googled 'cgoban.jar' and found a jar file to download and run.

Anyway, there it is.

Glenn
