cannot compile captive

Hello!
I was recently vainly trying to compile the captive package that makes it possible to access ntfs filesystems. At first I had configure error cos I missed the libbonobo library. After
downloading that library from:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...2.10.0.tar.bz2

and installing it, I configured it, but make encountered the following error:
grep: /usr/lib/libgconf-2.la: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libgconf-2.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libgconf-2.la' is not a valid libtool archive

Obviously I am missing some library. If someone knows which that library is, where I can download it from and eventually what dependencies are required for it, I would be thankful

The captive package can be downloaded from:
http://www.jankratochvil.net/project...e-1.1.7.tar.gz

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Martin

Like the error says, you're missing the library libgconf-2.la. This library is provided by the GConf package. You can get GConf here: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sourc...2.16.0.tar.bz2
Sounds like this captive program is pretty dependent on GNOME.

Question

I downloaded and installed GConf. The link you gave to me was pointing to a newer version than I had installed. But still there is no libgconf-2.la i /usr/lib. It seems that the libgconf-2.la library is a part of another gnome package .
I would be glad to get some clue what to try.

Thank you very much.

Whenever I install a package, I make a file of *everything* that is installed. Here is a link to my GConf file. You'll see that libgconf-2.la is, in fact, provided by GConf. It will only be in /usr/lib if /usr is the prefix you passed to the configure script.
Code:
./configure --prefix=/usr
If you didn't pass --prefix=/usr, then the library is probably in /usr/local/lib.
