In Slackware it's /etc/asound.state, but I wouldn't edit that file if I were you (but I'm not). Run `alsaconfig` as root, then `alsamixer` (as a normal user?), then `alsactl store` as root. If that still doesn't work, post back here and we'll try to help you out. Just make sure you run `alsactl store` as ROOT.

I don't think it's alsaconfig,it's alsaconf
When I ran alsaconf,it become even worse.
It could not find my soundcard,but my sound is OK of course,with the exception I have to reconfigure it each reboot.
When I ran alsactl store as ROOT,I get the same error as described in my first post in this thread.
Sorry, alsaconf is correct (wasn't paying attention). What kernel are you using? (huge, generic, huge-smp, generic-smp, or custom compiled one -- and what version? The standard 2.6.21.5 that ships with 12.0?) Did you upgrade alsa at all? Are you using a full install?
