ALSA refuses to restore sound state on boot Slack 9.1

HI

Let me first say that this community is excellent and i have found tons of answers for many problems, thanks.

Now to the problem:

ALSA refuses to restore the sound state on booting Slack 9.1. The only way i can get sound to work is my manually typing "alsactl restore" after i have logged in.

I have checked the alsa init script and it has the correct command, and i have tried adding the restore command to the rc.local init script. But still no sound.

There are no errors when booting, and the init script does run, ALSA just doesnt actually restore the settings.

Any ideas

Thanks in advance

Once you do get your sound, did you try doing another 'alsactl store 0' ?

storing is not the problem, it does that fine.

restoring the settings is the problem

hmm..

what are the permissions of /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa ?

try chmod 755 /etc/rc.d./rc.alsa - that should make sure alsa loads at boot-up which should automatically restore whatever it was set to.

lemme know.

Modify asound.state

Check your /etc/asound.state. The relevant controls should have value set to true, not false.

e.g.
control.20 {
comment.access 'read write'
comment.type BOOLEAN
iface MIXER
name 'PCM Playback Switch'
value true
}

I believe that there might be a bug. Anyway, manually edit the states if they are wrong and you should be ok I think.

problem solved !!!

But the problem was not in the permissions, nor the state file.

When JonLee suggested there was a bug, i upgraded ALSA to 0.97c

then just typed

$ alsactl store 0

And all was fine at reboot..

Thanks for the help
