USB Scanner problem again

Hi
been trying to set up my agfa 1212U USB Scanner for ages now with out result

Funny thing is that it did work when I first installed my Mandrake 9.1 in nov
I posted a lengthy string on it today but I cant find it any more it must have been an answer to some body elses thread ??!!

USB Scanners seems to be a common problem .

OK :

sane-find-scanner
gives
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd, product=0x2061) at /dev/usb/scanner0
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd, product=0x2061) at libusb:001:002
# A USB device was detected. This program can't be sure if it's really
# a scanner. If it is your scanner, it may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

**
scanimage -L
gives
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages)

******
in /dev/usb I have scanner0

In the snapscan.conf file i have unchecked the following lines
/dev/usb/scanner0 bus=usb
and
Agfa 1212U
usb 0x06bd 0x0001
usb 0x06bd 0x2061

******
dll.conf is in /etc/sane.d

and there is a snapscan in there
******************
This is how far I am

NOW in the other thread ( which i cant find anymore)

firmware is mentioned: I presume this refers to drivers
The only drivers I have are the original WIN 98 ( ugh) drivers
Do I have to dig up this CD ?

Lastly in the K contol panel USB devices gives

(SnapScan 1212U (?))

will try and see next the back end man pages

thanks for any help Phil

Found Drivers ?

I located my old agfa SNAPSCAN1212U cd and found the drivers file in there
A Folder called STI ..?!

It containes 3 DLL files
agscssti.dll
agsisti.dll
agusbsti.dll

I placed the whole STI folder in /usr

and added the line
firmware /usr/STI/agusbsti.dll
in
snapscan.conf

I tried this with the 3 different dlls
The scanner is still not working and i get the same output
with
sane-find-scanner
and
scanimage -L

I looked on the sane site and spent half the nite looking on the web
The main information I get is that I have to solve the firmware problem

I am quite stuck here

any takers

Phil

Unhappy SOME PROGRESS

This is driving me nuts

I have found the correct backend
1212U_2.bin

configured the snapscan.conf file

The scanner is listed in the hardware and in the K control panel it says ready for use !!

But I still get failed to open device 'snapscan/dev/usb/scanner0" invalid argument

even when i start xsane as root

what does it mean !

sane-find-scanner
gives
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd, product=0x2061) at /dev/usb/scanner0
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd [AGFA ], product=0x2061 [SNAPSCAN]) at libusb:001:002

scanimage -L
gives
device `snapscan:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a AGFA SNAPSCAN flatbed scanner

This is very weird I can even comment the line
/etc/sane.d/1212U_2.bin
and the result is the same

invalid argument

Tough nut..
